Oakland Avenue Reconstruction

The Village of Shorewood is reconstructing Oakland Avenue between Capitol Drive and Glendale Avenue. Construction began in February and will be completed in December 2026.

  • Crews are scheduled to remove pavement between Jarvis Street and Capitol Drive

Week of September 14, 2026

Pavement removals are scheduled to continue along the west side of Oakland Avenue.

  • Pavement removal crews will work one block at a time starting at Glendale Avenue and working south towards Capitol Drive  
  • Residents and businesses should expect short-term driveway closures as crews remove pavement in front of driveways  
  • Driveways will be restored with gravel by the end of the business day
  • As crews approach driveways, needed vehicles should be removed from driveways and parking lots by 6 a.m.  

Following pavement removals, crews are scheduled to prepare the street for paving operations.  

  • During paving operations, southbound Oakland Avenue will be detoured for approximately two days

There is no parking on Oakland Avenue between Capitol Drive and Glendale Avenue. Parked vehicles on Oakland Avenue are subject to citation and towing.

Motorists can cross Oakland Avenue at Kenmore Place and Lake Bluff Boulevard.  

  • Glendale Avenue west of Oakland Avenue is temporarily closed for reconstruction  

Milwaukee County Transit Green Line Service has resumed normal route operations on Oakland Avenue. For route updates, see www.ridemcts.com/alerts.

Long-Term Closures

Access to and from Oakland Avenue, Wood Place, Olive Street, Marion Street, and Kensington Boulevard west of Oakland Avenue is closed until mid-Fall for roadway reconstruction.
