Oakland Avenue Reconstruction

The Village of Shorewood is reconstructing Oakland Avenue between Capitol Drive and Glendale Avenue. Construction began in February and will be completed in December 2026.

Traffic and Utility Impacts

Week of March 23, 2026

  • Water main replacement work at intersections on the east side of Oakland Avenue may cause short-term pedestrian detours
    • Detours will be posted
  • Water service line connection work is scheduled to start on Wednesday, March 25, between Capitol Drive and Jarvis StreetĀ 
    • Two to four-hour water service shut-offs are planned for select residences and businesses
    • Water shut-offs are limited to the individual building being connected
    • The contractor has notified affected property owners and businesses
  • Crews are scheduled to connect the new Oakland Avenue water main to existing water mains on Elmdale Court, Kenmore Place and Jarvis Street
    • Short-term water shut-offs of approximately two to four-hours are scheduled for select areas on Oakland Avenue and areas east of Oakland Avenue (see Water-Shut-Offs Maps below)
    • The contractor is notifying affected residents and businesses

Night Work Scheduled: Crews are scheduled to start at 5 a.m. on Wednesday, March 25, between Capitol Drive and Elmdale Court to complete a water service connection for a water-dependent business.

Long-Term Closures

Access to and from Oakland Avenue from the east is closed until mid-summer at:

  • Kenmore Place
  • Jarvis Street
  • Wood Place
  • Olive Street
  • Marion Street
  • Lake Bluff Boulevard
  • Kensington Boulevard
